It’s up to us to make it happen — our neighbors are waiting! Read a few of their stories below (names have been changed here to protect privacy):
Eleanor in Tuscany-Canterbury can’t drive anymore. She needs help up and down the steps, carrying packages and getting in and out of a car — exactly the assistance offered by Village volunteer drivers who can take Eleanor shopping, to her doctor or to her bridge game.
John and Mary Beth in Roland Park worry about whom to call when they need home repairs, so they put them off. The last plumber they called overcharged them — by a lot. With one call to the Village, they can use vetted Village vendors. If there is the need, a knowledgeable volunteer can be present during any service call.
Joanne in Mt. Washington moved to a continuing care retirement community but was miserable there. Recently she moved back to her condo, which had not sold anyway. Now she finds herself needing social connections and transportation, as well as reasonable prices on home repairs in order to stretch her retirement dollars.
James in Ruxton needs help with his medications. He forgets what he has taken. He tried hiring an aide but couldn’t stand the aide hanging around for hours with nothing else to do after she gave him his morning medications. Determined to stay at home as long as he can, he loves the idea of sharing a medication technician with other Village At Home members to solve this problem.
Peter in Poplar Hill lost too much weight after his wife died last year. He would like to make use of the Bon Appetit Meals delivered. And he is very lonely. He wanted to know if anyone would like to play chess once a week.
